I usually don’™t get that absorbed in this kind of thing, but I’™ve been glued to my TV watching hurricane coverage. Mainly my thoughts are along the lines of wondering how much worse things are than they need to be because so many first responders, along with much needed specialized equipment, are in Iraq.

But anyway’¦I just wanted to alert you to today’™s Progress Report from the Center for American Progress because it does a great job of putting a whole bunch of issues related to the hurricane.

It’™s going to be interesting to see how this plays out over the next few weeks. People with resources will be uncomfortable but will come out okay. But how will the haves treat the thousands and thousands of displaced poor? Already the talking heads are tsk-tsking about looting, but would they prefer the newly homeless go without food and pampers? I’™m afraid that Katrina will show us exactly where we are at with class warfare in the country, and if the microcosm of the Superdome is any indication, we are in bigger trouble than even I imagined.
