Shocker: Pete Domenici (R-NM) is a Bald Faced Liar
March 1, 2007:
The Associated Press late Thursday reported that Sen. Pete Domenici (R-N.M.) and Rep. Heather Wilson (R-N.M.) deflected questions about whether they had called Iglesias while other lawmakers who were asked simply denied doing so.
“I don’t have any comment,” Domenici told the Associated Press. “I have no idea what he’s talking about.”

Sunday, the Republican senator said he called Iglesias last year and asked “if he could tell me what was going on in that investigation and give me an idea of what time frame we were looking at.
“It was a very brief conversation, which concluded when I was told that the courthouse investigation would be continuing for a lengthy period,” Domenici said in the statement.
…
Seems like another GOP liar did have a pretty good idea of what his accuser was talking about after all. Congressional subpoenas served on spurned employees seem to have that good ol’ confessional effect on their titular “bosses”.
Pete Domenici must tender his resignation from the U.S. Senate no later than close of business tomorrow.
Update, 3/5/2007: This morning, CREW filed an ethics complaint against Domenici. Should be an interesting week in the hearing rooms…

Imagine my surprise when today’s NY Times ran the story that in fact Domenici complained. No word yet on whether the other objector was Heather (like it could be anybody else, given that her people refuse to comment).
I don’t follow NM politics, but the overall impression the GOP has spread, and continues to spread, is pretty much the same as when our local farmers spread manure:
It reeks.
I dealt with PD in the 80s, he was a arrogant jerk then who thought he was so powerful no one could question his judgement, what made you think he would change. Fools don’t change just the world around them.
Heather Wilson has now acknowledged her contact with Iglesias.
