In stories such as this one in the New York Times, the speculation is relatively muted about what will be revealed in the today’s John Edwards press conference. It seems clear that whatever is discussed concerns Elizabeth Edwards’ bout with breast cancer, and that the whole thing will effect the Edwards campaign. But, as noted in the Washington Post article this morning, all lips are sealed concerning this press conference.
This could be a blip on the radar. It could be an important moment, too, where health counts far more in an election than ideas. Ironically, the Edwards ideas that most resonate with me are those he espouses concerning universal healthcare. Yet another thing is certain, the announcement of the press conference has caused a great deal of prayerful concern out here in the blogzome. Nobody is jumping to big conclusions, but the mood is muted, quiet. . . prayerful on the left side of the blogzome. Bless them.
I’m going to wait until the press conference to say anything else. Just a bit disturbed here this morning.
Richard’s Update: About an hour ago, The Politico reported that Edwards was suspending his campaign due to a recurrence of Elizabeth’s breast cancer. The Edwards campaign shot back immediately:
“Anything you are getting from someone claiming to know right now is not true - anyone claiming to know something right now is making it up. There is no information from this campaign until John and Elizabeth speak at noon,” says spokeswoman Kate Bedingfield.

John Aravosis says, “you don’t mysteriously announce a press conference with your wife if it’s good news.” I don’t understand. If there’s good news, why not call a press conference? It’s significant.
At any rate, if it’s about Elizabeth’s medical condition, I certainly hope it’s good news.
Yup, Aravosis is far more likely than I to speculate. I don’t criticize him for it, but I’ll not do so. But I will be attentive to what happens.
