It looks like U.S. forces are now going after the Mahdi Army in areas of Iraq other than Baghdad. As has been opined many times in many online outposts, the “surge” is nothing more than adding another nerf mallet to an ever expanding game of insurgent Whack-a-Mole.
Sen. McCain is going to be interviewed on 60 Minutes tomorrow night. An advance release of his remarks indicates that he’s going to say he “misspoke” about the situation and level of violence in the country. In other words, it’s not safe to walk around without body armor, a 100 soldier escort, rooftop snipers, and significant air cover. I think that 25 million Iraqis could have confirmed this a lot faster than McCain was willing to admit.
