Bush Redefines “Success” in Iraq

I had to do a double-take when I heard reports that George Bush had rolled out a new definition of success in Iraq, in a speech this morning before the Associated General Contractors of America:

Success is not, no violence. There are parts of our own country that have got a certain level of violence to it. But success is a level of violence where the people feel comfortable about living their daily lives. And that’s what we’re trying to achieve.

So, that’s what the regime is now trying to achive in Iraq? A “level of violence where…people feel comfortable”? I really need to find a YouTube video of this speech, because I don’t think that the above words (from the White House website transcript) are exactly what Mr. Bush actually said.

Either way - is this what our soldiers are dying every day for? Establishing an acceptable level of violence in Iraq? And what, exactly, is an acceptable level of violence? 10 headless bodies pulled out of the river? 5 car bombings? 2.3 American deaths? I want metrics, dammit.

The goal posts of success failure have been moved again.
