He thinks there’s a sense of shame developed enough within the Bush Administration and within Alberto Gonzales that he may resign before suffering a vote of no confidence in the Senate. From the NY Times:

Senator Arlen Specter, the senior Republican on the Judiciary Committee, said Sunday that Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales might resign rather than face a potential no-confidence vote in the Senate.

Senate Democrats have said they would bring a no-confidence resolution to the floor as soon as this week because of questions about Mr. Gonzales’s role in the dismissals of eight federal prosecutors last year and doubts about his leadership.

On “Face the Nation” on CBS, Mr. Specter noted that no-confidence votes were rare, adding, “I think that if and when he sees that coming, that he would prefer to avoid that kind of an historical black mark.” Mr. Specter, of Pennsylvania, would not say how he would vote on a resolution.

Hey, Gonzales has shown no sign so far that he has a sense of shame. As such he fits perfectly with the Bush Administration Justice Department. Has he shown a sense of shame for trying to pressure John Ashcroft while he was in his sickbed? No. Has he shown a shred of shame for trying to pawn off the whole AttorneyGate scandal on Paul McNulty? No. Has Gonzales shown a sense of shame for not recalling most of the action around him? No.

Specter’s prediction about Alberto requires that Mr. Gonzales have a sense of shame. Therefore, Mr. Specter’s statement is severely flawed. Don’t hold your breath, folks.
