Donald Hudson, Jr. writes a column a couple days ago for the Clarksville, TN paper. He begins it in a naive way, I suppose. As a writing teacher I’d jump on it, except. . . the naivete is perfect. It sounds like he’s a contestant on “To Tell the Truth” from way back when, and not a combat veteran. The column has a real folksiness, and not the Fred Thompson imitation kind. Of course, Donald asks questions Fred Thompson is afraid to ask.
Why are we over there, anyway?
I came here as part of the first wave of this so called “troop surge”, but so far it has effectively done nothing to quell insurgent violence. I have seen the rise in violence between the Sunni and Shiite. This country is in the middle of a civil war that has been on going since the seventh century.
Why are we here when this country still to date does not want us here? Why does our president’s personal agenda consume him so much, that he can not pay attention to what is really going on here?
I’m not going to tell the story of Doanld Hudson’s friend and roommate. Suffice to say the story is violent and ends badly. I’m also not going to give you Donald Dudson’s email address. But if you read his column, you can retrieve it. You can even write him. I’ll be doing so later today. Writing Donald Hudson, and thanking him for his service, may be the best way of supporting troops such as him. Sure, we can’t answer his questions in any way that will be satisfactory to he and his colleagues stuck in this ugly war. We know for sure Goerge Bush will not take the time to answer men like Donald Hudson, though.
