Scooter Libby - 2.5 Years
Done deal. So, the question remains - does Bush pardon Scooter, does he remain free on appeal, or what? It’s a little too late for Scooter to start singing, but I suppose there are always other “cooperation” options at Patrick Fitzgerald’s disposal, should Libby decide to open up in the future. Done deal. So, the question remains - does Bush pardon Scooter, does he remain free on appeal, or what? It’s a little too late for Scooter to start singing, but I suppose there are always other “cooperation” options at Patrick Fitzgerald’s disposal, should Libby decide to open up in the future. We’ll update as info flows in…let the frog marching begin…
WASHINGTON - Former White House aide I. Lewis “Scooter” Libby was sentenced to 2 1/2 years in prison Tuesday for lying and obstructing the CIA leak investigation.
Libby, the former chief of staff to Vice President Dick Cheney, stood calmly before a packed courtroom as a federal judge said the evidence overwhelmingly proved his guilt…
Walton fined Libby $250,000 and placed him on probation for two years following his release from prison. Walton did not immediately address whether Libby could remain free pending appeal…
Oh - and James Carville is dead to me.

(Love letters for Libby can be read at The Smoking Gun.)

hmmm, i understand mary pleading for leniency, but carville? perhaps she threatened no bjs for the length of his sentence.
but isn’t it sop to state when the sentence begins and whether the criminal can stay out on appeal at sentencing? inquiring minds want to know, and it makes me think the pardon is a done deal. why the fuck should chimpy care?
According to Jane at FDL, Walton’s decision on whether or when he has to report to prison will be made next week. Prosecution and defense have to file briefs.
Why does Judge Walton hate the children so much?
Good grief, what a crock. The prisons are in this country are chock full of daddies who have committed far less serious crimes than Scoote, some only of getting high. He should be glad he didn’t get charged with treason since he’s guilty of that too. My bet is the MSM will be calling him Martyr Libby by the 6:30 News.
Well, I don’t begrudge someone like Carville writing a letter on behalf of someone he knows and likes. That said, I wish he’d done as Hank Kissinger did, and acknowledge the lawbreaking Libby did. That’s what’s interesting to me about those letters on Smoking Gun, the ones who acknowledge that a jury of his peers convicted Libby of a crime against our government, and those who gloss the fact. Matalin and Carville did not acknowledge that justice was done with the Libby case, but at least they did not give whiney excuses, as some others did. It seems to me they were just caring for a friend.
Of course, Wolfowitz’s letter is the longest I read, and it glosses over Scooter’s crimes. John Bolton seems to have written a resume, then launched into the same whiney excuses as Libby’s defense failed defense did. Peter Pace is ludicrous in extolling Libby’s moral and legal advice. Jesus!
