Facebook for Feds and Spooks?
A MySpace / Facebook for spooks?? Apparently the techies in the various U.S. spy agencies feel that this is a good idea for sharing info across organizational lines. Or, is the idea to provide a convenient conduit for negotiating tee times and dinner reservations?
Apparently, there isn’t enough coordination of anti-terrorism efforts within the various government agencies that are chartered to deal with that sort of thing. The fact that the agencies don’t share a lot of information across organizational lines isn’t anything new - if the agencies had made such communication a priority prior to 9/11 (as the 9/11 Commission subsequently recommended), it’s a pretty safe bet that someone would have sniffed out the plot ahead of time.
Well, the feds have decided that there needs to be a better way for individuals in the intelligence community to “network”. And so…
The members of the 9/11 Commission recommended that the intelligence agencies do a better job of sharing intelligence information. The direct quote form the 9/11 Commission Report: “We propose that information be shared horizontally, across new networks that transcend individual agencies.”
Is this what the commission had in mind as a new network? Intelligence agencies say they plan to create “A-Space,” a private social networking site modeled on the popular social networking sites MySpace and Facebook…
…A-Space should appeal to younger recruits whom intelligence agencies need to attract.
OMG! WTF? So, if you get an email that says that your new BFF NSA Chief Mike McConnell has added you as a friend on A-Space, pay close attention. Snoopers in the rear view mirror may be closer than they appear.
(Seriously, this is the best idea that they could come up with in terms of sharing info across organizational lines? Or, is it more intended for setting up golf dates and dinner reservations?)

Your comments don’t remember my name and stuff. What happened???
Are they going to post pictures too? Will we find out who their bff might be? If this is for real, it’s funny as hell.
Sounds like you lost your cookie, dear. Member cookies have a one week expiration, I think…
And, I loved the BFF comment so much that I modified the post with it.
it’s intended to dump a few more billion into some jumbo contract for a bushco crony. then they will realize how easy it is to hack into and scrap the whole thing. but taxpayer money will go into the pockets of the super-rich so mission accomplished.
