Ron Paul - the $5 Million Man
GOP libertarian presidential candidate Ron Paul raised more money than John McCain in the 3rd quarter. Almost as eye opening is the fact that Paul is the only GOP candidate whose fundraising (other than latecomer Thompson) didn’t fall off in the 3rd quarter. Paul-menutm?
Well, this is quite unbelievable, and will certainly assist Ron Paul in moving his message forward - he raised over five million dollars during the last quarter. This kind of money could sure make things interesting in the GOP beauty contest:
Ron Paul’s campaign confirms that it collected $5,080,000 in the third quarter of fundraising. That’s more than double the campaign’s second quarter haul of $2.4 million; it’s also as much as “comeback” candidate John McCain has reportedly raised. Paul has $5.3 million cash on hand, again topping McCain…
…adding, that Paul is the only GOP candidate (except latecomer Fred Thompson) who raised more cash this quarter than the last.
To put this in perspective, Ron Paul’s 3rd quarter numbers are in roughly the same monetary neighborhood as those of John Edwards. And Paul is still considered a fringe candidate.
Interestingly enough, his decent money numbers are not yet reflected in his polling.
And lastly, if you missed my previous Ron Paul blogging, here’s my disclaimer: I am not a Ron Paul supporter. The vast majority of his policies are completely counter to the progressive agenda (his anti-war stance aside). Plus, I simply would not vote for a GOP presidential candidate in 2008 under any circumstances.
Update: I’d appreciate hearing from someone directly connected with the Paul campaign (and by directly connected, I mean a scheduler, campaign secretary, etc.) for an off-line conversation. Please get in touch with me via the “About / Contact Us” link above.

I can totally understand that someone in favor of many of the deal type programs would not vote for ROn Paul for president, however as someone in favor of world peace and against this ilegal war…would yo consider switching to republican fro teh primaries to vote for ron paul and then vote for your democrat nominee int he real election? this strategy would help push forward the idea that americans do not want illegal wars.
if guiliani is facing hillalry then she will not be forced to make any efforts at ending the war, but if she faces ron paul she will have to try and “one-up” him on being the real peace candidate.
Thank you Richard for taking the time to cover this. And I know I may be pushing my luck here a little but please take off the anti-GOP blinders just this one time. Ron Paul is different. I changed my registration to Republican in California just to be able to vote for this man. In my 18 years of voting in every election I had never voted Republican before.
Anyone who is truly for the middle and lower classes of society should be voting for Ron Paul. I couldn’t afford much but $25 of that 5 Million is mine and I plan on giving again (hopefully more) in the 4th Quarter.
Lastly I just want to say that Ron Paul and I don’t actually argee on every issue. I disagree with his stance on abortion and I’m not even 100% certain we would be right in pulling our troops out from everywhere in the world. However I do believe he is honest and would be a better president than ANY of the current front-runners of either party. Obama might be OK but on issues of the economy and foreign affairs I think he is way over his head (especially when compared to Ron Paul). Have you heard Ron Paul speak?? The guy definitely knows what he is talking about. When Obama starts to discuss the deflation of the dollar and that we are borrowing money hand over fist from places like China then maybe I’ll give him a second look. Until then it’s Ron Paul all the way. Thanks-Josh
Good question, Gabe. For me, the short answer is no ( I don’t think Giuliani gets the GOP nom in any case). I would be the first to condemn any mass Dem defection to the GOP in such a tactic, even for a primary vote. There’s not a whole lot of moral distance between doing that and what the Pa. GOP did with the Green Party last year in an effort to beat Sen. Casey.
i gotta say, i am perplexed and amused by the “Ron Paul Love Revolution” signs popping up all over philly (and here at ASZ). Almost as brilliant as Gravel’s “throw a rock in the water” ad.
What exactly is a “Love Revolution”? And why is Ron Paul its leader?
No, I would not vote for a Republican now either. But I was raised Republican, in a time when it was palatable to vote as such. Ron Paul shows some of those characteristics. Frankly, I hope he is instrumental in changing the Republican Party, because I do not think one party rule will be a good thing in this country, and with the wickedness and incompetence of the Republicans nowadays, one party rule is likely. Yes, I agree with the Democrats, but I don’t trust them to rule well in our current political enviornment. They’re not nearly the disaster as the Republicans, but . . .
With Diebold (now known as “Premier Election Solutions”) recording and counting the votes, what difference does it make WHO the candidates are?
The next president will be whoever the Powers That Be want him or her to be.
so your saying that it isn’t moral to vote for a anti-war candidate but IT IS moral to kill a half million iraqi’s …kinda like Clinton’s pal madelaine albright and George W advocate….you CFR supporters have a f’ed up view of morality…I can’tGD believe what kinda s*** I am hearing from retards who support the mainstream candidates.
Next we will hear Gary Hart and Hillary Clinton lecturing us about the great morals of dropping nuclear bombs on Iran and stamping UPC codes on every living american as they get injected with thimerosal.
Enjoy your FEMA camps!
It’s a revolution of love…people who trade freely and enjoy private property rights love one another. People who treat people as property of the state preach hate, class warfare, fearmongering and war.
so your saying that it isn’t moral to vote for a anti-war candidate but IT IS moral to kill a half million iraqi’s
Gabe, you’re twisting what I said, and I hope you can recognize that.
What I said is that it’s politically morally wrong to switch parties in order to boost one particular candidate on the other side (or lessen the chances of one of the more premier candidates). What is different from what you’re asking people to do -vs- what the GOP did in Pa. with the Greens last year?
Nothing.
If the diebold machines count our vote we will have President Paul in 2009. What do You fear about following the constitution? Does hard currency bother you? Would having an honest man in the whitehouse be so bad? I know it would be a new thing to have integrity and constitutional goverment in the executive but what do you have to loose besides the police state and rampant looting by bushco cronies? If Hitlery or Ghouliani were to gain power GOD have mercy on us all. As far as I can see its Ron Paul or we will descend into anarchy or civil war. There is only one option for 2008 if our nation is to be saved from the globalist goons,Ron Paul.
“politically morally wrong”??
Politics requires game theory. There are laws describing what is legal and illegal.
Sujay, something can be legal and immoral, just as something can be illegal and morally correct. The difference is that whilst laws are forced on us, morals are innate, so Richard is quite right to hold the position that switching camps merely to ensure the defeat of a candidate (by the ascendency of another) is morally wrong. However, considering it would be Ron Paul getting the nomination over Rudy Giuliani I kind of think it’s ethical.
“What is it about freedom that you do not like?”
“What is it about freedom that scares you?”
IMHO, these are the only questions to ask each other. Every person has to get it straight, inside themselves: What is freedom to me? How much do I want for myself? And therefore, how much am I willing to allow for others?
Then, find your candidate who is closest to your ideal.
Forget about ‘reasonable’ or ‘realistic’. Exactly those attitudes have gotten us in the mess we are in.

When we cast off the “creature from jekyll island” then and only then can we begin to regain our freedom. 3 to 5 trillion “missing” from the pentagon? 200,000 guns lost in Iraq? Pallets of cash missing in Iraq? Our great grandchildren will be paying the tab for bushco cronies.
Willhelm Canaris of Abwehr stated “for us the war is never over”. If we do not end this war it has been promised to continue for “100 years”, if humanity can last that long. JFK warned us of secret societies and was promptly silenced. Its time to bring The Thule Society out of the cellar and move them away from Yale and ultimately into exile. The CFR and AIPAC also need walking papers. It is high time for us to take this thing back, and Ron Paul is just the person to lead us. There is no difference in the parties, Paul runs as a republican only to have a shot at winning. It is time for TRUTH and HONESTY. RON PAUL.
