One Bad Apple: That’s Mitt Romney
Oooh! A celebrity endorsement for Mitt Romney. . . but from celebrities who have zero following anymore, except among Mormons. Total dud, and that fits the Romney campaign.
Mitt Romney may have gotten the endorsement from the Osmond family this week, but that doesn’t mean he can escape his flip flops on issues such as abortion adn gay marriage that are important to the LDS constituency. Still, what is the Osmond family endorsement going to do? Come on, they’ve not had any sway, even in the music industry, for 20 years. From Boston.com:
Interviewed on “Larry King Live,” the singing Osmond family has nothing but nice things to say about Mitt Romney, according to clips posted on CNN’s website. (Watch them here.)
Jimmy Osmond calls Romney “a great man.”
Donny Osmond said Romney’s candidacy has been “absolutely wonderful for the Mormon Church” because it has made many more Americans curious about their faith.
And Marie Osmond had this to say when asked whether Romney should give a speech on his religion similar to the one that John F. Kennedy gave during the 1960 campaign before becoming the nation’s first Catholic president: “I hope we’ve grown up since then. I hope people look at the person and what they’ve done.”
I suppose that anyone who remembers Jimmy Osmond back in the day will laugh a great deal at this story. I’m thinking if that I’m Mitt Romney I’m not going to tout any LDS folks who are backing my campaign, even with the New York Times fluff piece about me. Here we’ve got a vastly over the hill boy band coming to support him. That’s lame, lame, lame.
This is typical Republican incompetence. There’s no gain with the Osmond brothers unless among Mormons, and Romney doesn’t need gain there. And the Osmonds will attract zero other votes. This is a dud move by a dud candidate.

Steven,
What qualifications do you have that would match Romney’s? On academics alone, I can almost guarantee that you only have a BA or a … BS! (pun intended). Right?
At least he didn’t get the Michael Jackson and Jackson 5 endorsement.
Dan, I’ve got a Masters degree with further graduate coursework in Literature and Philosophy. You lose on this one.
Oh, so you’re still studying? You have not entered the “real world” and have no real accomplishments in real life like Romney? Well, as the adage goes: “Get a life!”
dan, you’re embarrassing yourself. I work in the real world. I am not still studying, nor did I say so. As to Romney, he’ll say anything to get elected. I suppose you are in favor of that sort of realpolitick, but I am not.
I’m not Mormon. I’m not a little bit country, or a little bit rock and roll, but when a family with ethics such as the Osmonds get behind a candidate, I will pay attention. The very fact that they are NOT politically active tells me take a second look.
Fans of current, or recently faded boy bands probably won’t vote Republican, but this 40-something Osmond fan is an active Republican who is deciding between Mitt Romney and Rudy Giuliani.
Sure, the Mormons stick together. I don’t blame them. Even if the Osmond endorsement won’t necessarily help, it certainly can’t hurt. Have you seen how well Marie’s mediocre dancing is doing on Dancing with the Stars? The Osmonds have more influence than you may think!
