A few days ago, I received the following email from Andy Ternay of Street Prophets:

Richard, I am writing to ask if you guys would be willing to do a post on Wednesday, December 19th, about Pretty Bird Woman House, a women’s shelter onthe Standing Rock reservation. In a nutshell, their house burned down and we are trying to raise money for a new house for them. I’m not asking you to contribute (although I would be grateful if you chose to do so). I’m simply asking if you would be willing to help spread the word via the All-Spin Zone.

This far we have raised about $48,000 of the $70,000 they need to buy the house and security system for the house. Our idea was to try to do one big push before Christmas starting December 19th in hopes of finishing up the drive before the New Year. We are hoping to frontpage a diary on Daily Kos (one of last year’s frontpagers is helping us with this) on Wednesday and have many feminist, progressive and Native American blogs join in.

I’m more than happy to hook up ASZ with this effort. In fact, if you’re looking for a charitable organization to give a few bucks to over the holiday season, I can think of fewer endeavors more worthy of your support, and just a few dollars here and there can make a tremendous amount of difference in helping this women’s shelter realize its goal.

Kudos to Andy and his merry band of truly committed mates at Street Prophets. This is the kind of thing that true faith is all about.
