Semi Live Blogging - New Hampshire
Iowa, New Hampshire, and on we go. As coverage starts, and as expected, McCain is way ahead in the GOP horse race. Hillary is (perhaps surprisingly) ahead on the Dem side of the coin.
Well, similar to the Iowa caucuses, I’m going to live blog my impressions of the NH primary, for as long as I last, anyway.
NBC Projection - GOP
John McCain - why not? The media’s been fluffing him for the past week.
Random Observation:
Even though the GOP vote is apparently a run-a-way for McCain, Mitt Romney is cleaning Huck’s clock, by a factor of almost two. Maybe NH voters know something that Iowa voters didn’t understand?
So, money well invested, Ron Paul supporters?
Walk on the Dem side…c’mon, Joe, take a walk on the Dem side…
Obama, Clinton, Edwards. Was there ever any doubt? And was there ever any doubt that at least two of the campaigns really didn’t give a shit about either Ia. or NH? That’s what I’m starting to think…
What Pat Buchanan Thinks
John McCain is a manly man.
Yes
Rachel Maddow still doesn’t have a permanent gig on MS-NBC. Why the hell not? Tucker and Joe S. do. What’s wrong with this picture? And is she James Carville to Buchanan’s Mary Matalin?
Hillary upset in the making?
I want to watch as Chris Matthews and Andrea Mitchell both choke on that chicken bone.
Ed Rendell - Eagles commentator
Please, guv, stick to what you do best - post game football analysis. Although, on further review, you might make a good veep choice. We Americans like a jolly man with the heart of a Terminator™.
Romney’s Speech
You’re starting to sound like a demoncrat, Mitt. Tagg’s looking like “deer in the headlights” over your left soulder. Blah, blah, friggin’ blah. Simple. STFU. He’s banging the Obama drum. Almost wish the site was broken tonight. Mitt just had his Dean moment.
NBC Chicken Bones
Keith, Tweety, Tom, Andrea…they’re all choking tonight. What happened to the Obama Express?
Who the hell…..?
…upholstered Mrs. Huckabee?
Rudy, Paul, and Gramps
9%
8%
1%
Any questions?
MAC IS BACK, MAC IS BACK
WTF, WTF? Romney knows what it’s all about. He’s already on I-93 heading through the Big Dig to Logan. St. John sure knows how to fluff himself. And his donors will, too, tomorrow.
Random Observation
The Democratic Party turnout is kicking, I mean kicking, the arse of the GOP. It’s almost 2:1. Either NH independents are all breaking for Dems, or GOP support is so soft as to be Maypo.
Hillary (leading Dem) has 45,000+ votes
McCain (leading Gopper) has 27,000+ votes
Wherein I’m breathless with anticipation…
…to hear how this evening is Hillary Clinton’s death knell. [/snark]
Why Chris Matthews Sucks My Sphincter
“I wouldn’t put it past the Clintons if it looked like it was moving toward a victory for Barack to pull a quick press conference while it’s still vague and say it’s too early to tell and go to bed with some kind of vague victory statement.”
Fuck. Me. Someone please do a video capture of chicken bone choking Chris Matthews. He is about to go into a spasmodic fit because Hillary is winning.
My message to Hillary tonight…
As she wins tonight, against all odds…
Nite…

Richard,
I realize it’s too early to draw any conclusions but let me float an idea. Could Senator Clinton’s strong showing with slightly over 20% of the vote counted suggest that voters made two decisions:
1) It was too early to hand the nomination to one candidate.
2) They didn’t like the biased media treatment (ganging up if you will) and the salivating over the presumed thrashing so many predicted was headed Hillary’s way?
Should it remain very close, it will be fascinating to see the exit poll logic which facilitated her surprise showing.
Your thoughts?
Daniel
I’m picking door # 2, Daniel, to an extent. I really believe that the backlash from media treatment of Clinton over the last 24 - 48 hours had a really big impact. Huge. I don’t think we can underestimate the impact the negative media reporting - no, clearly, BIASED media reporting, has had on Clinton’s rebound.
Richard,
It sure looks that way to me. While I’ve never been up close and personal with the Clinton’s or any other presidential candidate for that matter, I remain baffled by the source of this overwhelming animosity.
Have the Clinton’s offended that many media types and burned that many bridges? Are they that much different than other politicians? Or was the GOP’s scorched earth campaign during Bill’s presidency so successful that the Clinton’s will never recover?
My curious nature would really like to understand the dynamics. I’ll offer one anecdotal observation that has added to my astonishment. I frequently search images on Google and during a recent search for Hillary Clinton, I saw more derogatory images than I’ve seen since Googling images for Ann Coulter. What am I missing?
I can muster some understanding of the anger at Bill for his White House antics…but should that translate into a wholesale indictment of Hillary?
In some way, I wonder if her staying in the marriage led people to conclude she’s only interested in power and profit. If so, then I’m even more confused by the rhetoric of the religious right when it comes to the importance of marriage and the family. I guess one can only believe a scorned spouse would be sincere in staying with their partner if there were no extenuating motivations? Perhaps that suggests people are extrapolating their predisposition to making decisions based upon their own self-serving motivations? If that is the case, I shudder at the thought of the transparently thin veneer that is the “family values” so many people toss around as if it were a forthright badge of holiness.
On that note, I think I’ll go vomit and take a shower.
