Huckabee Draws First Blood on Super Tuesday
Mike Huckabee needed to pick up a few wins in bible belt states today in order to remain competitive in the GOP horse race. He’s off to a good start, having captured the 18 delegates from West Virginia this afternoon.
It’s going to be a wild day.
At the close of the West Virginia GOP delegate convention today, Mike Huckabee won all 18 of W. Va.’s delegates. It sounds like the convention was quite a raucous event, as horse traders among the McCain supporters (who had no chance of winning) defected to Huckabee in order to deny Mitt Romney the win:
Mike Huckabee won the first contest declared on Super Tuesday, picking up all 18 national delegates awarded at West Virginia’s state GOP convention.
Huckabee bested Mitt Romney, who entered the Mountain State event with the largest bloc of pledged convention-goers. Both men and Ron Paul made in-person appeals to the more than 1,100 convention delegates attending Tuesday’s convention.
But the former Arkansas governor beat his Massachusetts counterpart after delegates for John McCain defected to his side…
Huckabee needed to pick up a few bible belt states today in order to remain viable (read: continue fund raising) after this evening. His win in West Virginia probably keeps him in the race for awhile longer.
As a reminder, ASZ will be semi-live blogging the Super Tuesday primary results as they trickle in this evening.

oh gimme that old time religion!
I’m voting for Huck because of his ideas on the fair tax. The Fair Tax is such a great system. It makes so much sense for America at this point in our history; increasing productivity, encouraging moving up in the income brackets, and making taxes simpler for all. I found a great petition telling Congress to look into the fair tax, and, as we gain more signatures, money is donated to the fair tax cause.

We need to tell America to make this important change. We need to speak out!
