Darrell Issa (R-Clueless) Creates 9/11 Controversy
Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Ca) has created a bit of a firestorm with his remarks this past Tuesday on establishing a healthcare fund for 9/11 workers. Maybe he should think back to his remarks after Michael Moore’s “Sicko” testimony to congress…
As a frequent guest on Bill Maher’s show, Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Ca) is no stranger to putting his foot in his mouth. Generally, that’s quite alright for Issa, because his targets are mostly liberals, progressives, and pro-immigration conservatives. The other day, though, he created a bit of a firestorm when, during a committee hearing that was considering creating new funding for treatment of 9/11 workers, Issa said:
“I have to ask, why damages from a fire that had no dirty bomb in it, it had no chemical munitions in it, it simply was an aircraft, residue of two aircraft, and residue from the materials used to build this building, why the firefighters who went there and everybody in the City of New York needs to come to the federal government for the dollars versus this being primarily a state consideration.” …
Needless to say, Issa’s words haven’t exactly gone over well in the New York press. The NY Daily News editorialized yesterday:
Darrell Issa failed to apologize for expressing in the House of Representatives sentiments that nearly fit the yahoo brigade of 9/11 revisionists, minimizers and deniers.
What Issa said Tuesday was callous in the extreme…
The fallout from Issa’s remarks continues today, with Rep. Peter King (R-AsBadAsIssa) remarking:
“New York was attacked by Al Qaeda. It doesn’t have to be attacked by Congress,” added Long Island Rep. Pete King, a Republican.
“I’m really surprised by Darrell Issa,” King added. “It showed such a cavalier dismissal of what happened to New York. It’s wrong and inexcusable.” …
Remember Michael Moore’s movie, Sicko, and how Moore took ground zero workers to Cuba for treatment, because they couldn’t get treatment at home? Perhaps Rep. Issa might wish to recall his stance with Democratic Rep. John Conyers after Moore’s appearance on Capitol Hill last year.

Firstly, it was the failure of the Federal government on many levels to protect the city of New York that caused the 9/11 attack to happen in the first place. There were places and times at all levels of government where if people had been doing their jobs and doing it properly, up to and including the President ignoring memos about Al Queda that Clinton left for him, then 9/11 wouldn’t have happened in the first place. Note that this doesn’t even take into account the disastrous foreign policy of the last 30 plus years of the Federal government towards the middle east which directed the hatred which spawned the terrorists in the first place.
Second, the 9/11 hijackers were all foreign agents ( terrorists in this case ) who attacked the US. It is not the responsibility of New York city or New York State or any other state for that matter to repel attacks from agents outside of the United States, that IS however the very stated purpose of the US Federal Government right in the Constitution that gives this guy his power.
Third, it was an agency of the Federal Government, who told the workers at ground zero that the air was safe and allowed them to continue to work without respiratory protections or adequate medical care when they knew that the air was not in fact safe.
So, between incompetence, bold faced lies and the outright responsibility enshrined in the Constitution you’re DAMNED FUCKING RIGHT THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT SHOULD BE PONYING UP MONEY FOR HEALTHCARE FOR THESE PEOPLE.
Sit down and shut the fuck up, Issa, you fucking moron. Before we bring up what the hell YOU have been doing as far as your job in Congress.

From Welcome to Pottersville (emph. POLT):
“It had come out a year ago when Ron Suskind had published his landmark book, The One Percent Doctrine, that when Bush was vacationing in Crawford, Texas in August of 2001, the CIA had sent him a memo entitled, “Bin Laden Determined to Strike Inside US.” After having phoned it in, we can only surmise the reaction, or lack thereof, that necessitated a face to face meeting with someone whom, after barely more than six months on the job, people were already beginning to view as a failed president. According to Suskind’s source, when Bush had gotten the personal briefing from panicky CIA analysts, the nonplussed Chief Executive was quoted as saying, “All right, you’ve covered your ass now.”
