Will Dubya Snub the Presidential Memorial Commission?
Will George Bush snub the Presidential Memorial Commission like he did the 9/11 Commission? I’m betting he’ll try, so that means we’ve got to get lots of signatures on those petitions. After all, honoring our Presidents is important work.
The Presidential Memorial Commission has announced plans to honor George W. Bush. As they note, it is nearing the end of the Bush Presidency, and it’s high time we thought of what to do. OK, this is the Presidential Memorial Commission of San Frasncisco, and it has Peaches Christ as one of the Commissioners (not a Drag Queen, but a “Gender Illusionist”), and a colorful collection of other Commissioners, including religious representation from Sister Porn Again and Sister Selma Soul. SFist has the scoop:
Looking to honor the forty-third President of the United States of America, George W. Bush, the recently formed Presidential Memorial Commission of San Francisco is looking to change the name of the Oceanside Wastewater Treatment Facility. It seems the group would like to rename the SF Zoo adjacent facility to the “George W Bush Sewage Plant.”
Genius.
The local grassroots movement, helmed by “Wayne Pickering,” is proposing an ordinance initiative for the November 2008 San Francisco ballot in order to get the poop/pee/vomit plant’s title changed. Why? To honor our current leader of the free world with an “appropriate and enduring legacy, for no other president in modern American history has accomplished so much in such a short time.”
So, the question is whether Mr. Bush accepts this honor, given that it has a strong chance of both getting on the ballot and passing in San Francisco, despite the fact the city has never really warmed to Mr. Bush. He didn’t do what the 9/11 Commission wanted, though, so it may be that he’ll try to fight this action. He’d probably want to be honored elsewhere, and maybe he will demur, claiming that honoring someone is only appropriate after that someone has passed. But there’s precedent for Republican Presidents accepting honors before they die. Ever hear of Ronald Reagan Airport?
If I lived in San Francisco, I would certainly sign the petition so that we could honor our least successful President. Please, if you know anyone who lives there, get them to seek out and sign the petition. This is important.

is this sort of thing really worth your time, our time?
why not look at mark penn’s connection with colombia’s bid for a free trade agreement? it seems to me that this makes hillary look pretty stupid. it started in the wsj, was picked up by both josh marshall and david sirota
how can she justify her objections to free trade with a straight face when one of her chief aides is engaged in such behind the scenes?
moreover, what “truths’ were sorted out on the imbroglio of canada and nafta before the ohio primary? has anyone looked at that so that we can can know better the implications of “free trade” in the campaign.
frankly i think that, in part, the ohio results reflected “disinformation” broadcast by hillary’s camp about the alleged role of obama’s people in the flap
and, as a philly resident, steven, can you tell us where free trade, as a primary issue, sits in PA?
in part, steve, i answered my own question, but appending this to the comments section admittedly is dumb! my apologies. images and urls stripped out except one near bottom, that am not sure of.

Clinton Strategist Talks Strategy on Colombian Trade
Susan Davis reports on the presidential campaign.
While Sen. Hillary Clinton has been railing against free-trade agreements, her chief strategist, Mark Penn, met Monday with Colombia’s ambassador to the U.S. to discuss the pact.
Clinton strategist and public-relations specialist Mark Penn, pictured here after a Democratic debate in New Hampshire in January, met this week with Colombia’s ambassador to discuss a bilateral trade deal.
But in this case Penn was wearing his other job hat: chief executive of Burson-Marsteller Worldwide. The international communications and lobbying firm has a $300,000 year-long contract with the Colombian Embassy (signed at the end of March 2007) to promote the trade deal and initiatives to stop drug trafficking, according to a filing with the Justice Department.
Penn has declined to comment. Howard Wolfson, Clinton’s communications director, said “Mark was not there on behalf of the campaign” and referred further questions to Burson-Marsteller where a spokesman echoed: “Mark was not at the meeting on behalf of the campaign.” The Burson spokesman didn’t, however, elaborate on Penn’s role at the meeting.
The news comes as both Clinton and rival Sen. Barack Obama are courting union support in the run-up to the April 22 primary in Pennsylvania. Both senators addressed the Pennsylvania AFL-CIO this week where they reiterated their opposition to the Colombia trade pact.
Unions in the Keystone State believe free-trade agreements such as the north American free trade agreement have contributed to the loss of nearly 200,000 manufacturing jobs in the state since 2001. The AFL-CIO opposes the Colombia trade pact.
On Tuesday, Clinton pointedly told the Pennsylvania AFL-CIO: “We’ve got to have new trade policies before we have new trade deals. That includes no trade deal with Colombia while violence against trade unionists continues in that country.”

Hey, wait a sec… Didn’t Hilary crucify Barack Obama when one of his economic advisers held an “off the campaign record” meeting in Canada? This woman’s hypocrisy is unbounded. And isn’t it telling, that her strategist Penn can “wear two hats” (read “speak out of both sides of his mouth”, this campaign’s modus operandi).

The fact that Hillary Clinton even employs this joker is reason enough to disqualify her from being president.
Now, I doubt the fact that Penn did this really reflects her politics, and she may not have even known what he was up to. That’s not the problem.
The real problem is: why in the heck is this idiot on her payroll, let alone running her campaign? What kind of judgment is that?
Raymond - Having a little fun is worth just about everyone’s time, particularly in these rather depressing and trying times. Please help spread the word about the Presidential Memorial Commission’s noble effort to honor the worst President in US history.
Ray, it would be good to report that about Hillary, but we at ASZ are not taking part in the infighting between the Dem candidates anymore. No, it doesn’t matter the merits of the facts of that infighting. As far as I’m concerned, the campaign is over anyway. We’re going to have an Obama nominee. But we will not trash either of the candidates anymore, whether that trashing is fact-based or not.
But we will make fun of Dubya, no doubt.
That’s OK by me, although it is a bit, say, “counter-intuitive”?
following your lead the other day, i sent some stuff to “brian” — correct name? — about writing for asz. looking for reply in private message,
Richard is his name, Ray. send me your email and I’ll make sure he gets it. That would be to stevenscottreynolds@msn.com
Thanks.
