This is the sort of thing that only sounds absurd until you get down to the details.
sure, neither of them will have the predetermined number of delegates to ‘win’ the nomination, one of them will have more delegates than the other one. It going to be really hard to ignore that once these numbers are set in stone.
but but but the whole point is that the numbers aren’t set in stone yet.
I understand the frustration of Clinton supporters. It really does suck losing narrowly and it’s real easy to convince yourself that that one last State/County/District is going to buck the trend and make you a winner. But it almost never really happens.
We’ve all seen the press reports on what the actual SD’s are likely to do, as opposed to what the idea of SD’s are theoretically capable of doing. Clinton supporters will want to see it as neither of them winning, the way this cartoon depicts it. That’s technically correct, but technicalities will never be able to match the psychology that will kick in after that last race is run. I’ve yet to hear even the most vocal Hillary supporters claim that it’s likely that Hillary will be ahead in delegates. It’s extremely unlikely she will be ahead in any popular vote that does not exclude every caucus state in the union.
I’m not suggesting that you all throw in the towel just yet, but I’d suggest that you make peace with the idea of losing and not try to convince yourselves that this was stolen from you by an unfair narrative.
ok soullite i’ll bite but you really are taking this lack of reading comprehension too far.
nowhere in this cartoon is there the faintest mention of the election being stolen (by an unfair narrative yet! how would that work?). nowhere in this cartoon is it mentioned that if clinton doesn’t win then supporters will protest that neither of them won.
of course no clinton supporters are saying that she will be ahead in delegates. neither will obama. that is the point, and the only point of the cartoon.
if you’re so concerned about the psychology that will kick in after a nominee is selected, try thinking a little about how to not alienate the other half of the democratic party - y’know the ones that will be needed to defeat the real demon here, mccain. not to mention the congressional races that will need to won too.
it really is disheartening to see commenters like the one above being so cavalier with the “it sucks to lose narrowly” remark. anyone remember the past couple presidential elections? is it ok now to just ignore the other half of the democratic party as if we haven’t all been on the same team all this time? as though we don’t all pretty much want the same things for our country? did you like being marginalized the past 8 years by the thugs? ok then.
if he does get the nomination obama is gonna have a lot of cleaning up to do after all the name calling his folowers have been doing. i wish he would start now but i imagine lots of them would lose interest if they were asked to play nice.
just remember the only thing worse than a sore loser is a sore winner
Some of Obama’s supporters make me want to not vote in ‘08 if he gets the nomination.
Somegirl, there’s a huge difference between ‘Not being ahead in the delegate count’ and ‘not having the required 2024 delegates.. Before you go around accusing others of lacking reading comprehension, you best familiarize yourself with that difference. I was being polite, there was no need to enter into this with that BS. The person who has the most delegates is ‘ahead’, regardless of whether they have enough delegates or not. To deny that is to deny objective reality.
But then, you’re not really angry with me. you’re angry with what I’m saying. You’re angry that you have to hear it. Most of all, you’re angry because its true. Having one candidate ahead by 150+ delegates is going to present your side with a massive psychological hurdle to overcome. Thats not a circumstance I created, so stop trying to shoot the messenger.
Merl, its your vote and this is a Democracy. But it’s going to be really hard to defend that vote in the long run. I could understand if Obama had some position you find untenable. I could understand if you were so loyal to the Clintonites that you would rather lose the 08 election than allow another faction to take charge of the party. I can not, and I doubt anyone else will, understand that you refused to vote for a candidate because some random person was a dick to you in a comment section of a blog. Thats just plain childish.
ooh big gotcha - i got messed up on the whole ahead in delegates thing you said. the point is neither has enough to win which was the point of the cartoon.
i’m angry that the obama people are being such assholes. no one i know who supports clinton has any hatred for obama, unlike the rabid hatred obama supporters have for the opposing candidate. in fact, hardly any of the clinton supporters i know even cared much one way or the other until the attacks began. and your coming around here being a dick with your naaanaaanaaa overcome this psychological hurdle bullshit is something you are creating adding to your candidate’s troubles. if he can’t get the rest of the party behind him it will be people like you who are to blame.
no more feeding the trolls for me!
Actually much of the insider operations of the Democratic Party are being flushed out with a whole new generation of what to wave the flag for. It is getting to the point of the record not being important.
It is getting more of a reality in our current politics that the only thing that counts is results. However, what one believes in is also very important and core to the success of the American experiment to work in hand with the results. Current issue in progress is the spreading of Democracy in Iraq is nothing like what American politicians, Bush and Company in charge wants. That’s why there is no victory yet. Mainstream Media knows this and dancing around this ideal with in the publics Americas eye cushioning every sour note that comes out Iraq.
The flag that offers a huge impact to the Democratic Party to me is when Joe Lieberman actually is backing a Republican President. Here, after using and abusing friendships and the basic rule of the very Party he is in Lieberman did with what I think is selfish personal intent to power reach.
It is a monumental historic flip flop of huge proportion to the Democratic Party that seriously show not how the Democrats are warm, open, giving, and compassionate yet the media places the attributes of being a dysfunctional Democratic party. Here, the ideal, really is to know with a slight doubt that this man who once was given the Democratic nomination to the vice presidency just dismisses all relations and embraces the Republicans.
Here, Lieberman slapped everyone in the Democratic Party in the face. This begs the questions how many others are out there that are in play with the Republicans that wave the banner that they are Democrats. How many out there are playing this game with the delegates the money and the election total numbers that are in Obama’s cheat sheet. Here, any Democrat should now believe the serious reality the Clinton is not only the face of the real Democratic Party but nothing like the status quo that Edwards claims she is.
It is an incredible link to the complicity with the Republican Party that the Mainstream Media is in total control of all this Primary Play Ground currently going on. Between the ideals of the rush of to end the primary is telling of the major bias to eliminate Hillary in the election. And all of a sudden I believe that ideal play around that far too many Democrats have fallen in line with the Republican Party and those that claim they are the same are moving to the reality that they are. All the media first line Journalist giving these percentages of who is leading is the most misleading and deliberate lie the public has ever had to endure. CNN, MSNBC,FOX and hate radio are America’s curse.
