What is McCain Hiding? Or Is He Just Flip Flopping?

John McCain is holding back on telling the American people about his health records. I suspect that doesn’t mean he isn’t healthy. Maybe it means he went to faith healers or something? What’s so shameful, John? And why did you flip flop here as you did on so many other issues?

Commentary By: Steven Reynolds

Come on, does the man have warts? We’re talking the top job in the country here, and the man can’t give us his medical history? Well, he promised us access to his medical history a couple times. Seems John McCain, MC Flip Flopper, is doing the flip flop again. (The guy’s going to strain something if he keeps up with this flip flopping, like he’s done with Hagee and Parsely in the last couple days.) Here’s the old story McCain put out about his medical records, from Minnesota Monitor:

It was back in early March when we noted that the McCain campaign was promising the release of their man’s medical records “in a month or so.” That turned into a pledge they’d be released by April 15. Now the word is May 15.

The delays have occasioned some dark speculations, but McCain’s people are pleading logistical difficulties. And that may be so — because what the McCainiacs have in mind is not really a release of medical records but a carefully managed press event. The plan, detailed by Dan Nowicki in an excellent Arizona Republic article earlier this month, is to convene a gathering where three of McCain’s docs will hold forth and a small gaggle of journalists from the Washington press corps will get to peruse the candidate’s medical records for a grand total of 90 minutes. Many more journos — up to 750 — are expected to participate in a teleconference, but it appears they won’t have any direct access to the files themselves.

No, the records have not been released as promised. I suppose some of us might think a man who can’t fulfill his promises would be a bad guy to elect as President. And, no, he’s not going to fulfill his promises, at least that’s the story from the Washington Times. I love how they report this, that they are going to release the documents, but not in any way reporters are going to be able to report on them. Slimeballs, is what I’m thinking. They want to tell us they’re releasing important information to the American Republic, but they are restricting how that information is used. From the Washinton Times:

As Americans kick off the first holiday weekend of the summer Friday, Sen. John McCain will release 400 pages of his medical records to a handpicked group of reporters who can neither photocopy nor keep the documents, illustrating the sensitivity the campaign places on the 71-year-old candidate’s age and health.

For more than a year, the four-term senator has repeatedly promised to release his recent medical records, but has not yet done so.

The McCain campaign has selected a handful of news organizations to review the records today in a conference room at the Copper Wynd Resort in Fountain Hills, Ariz., near the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale.

Reporters from all five major news networks — CBS, ABC, NBC, CNN and Fox — will be allowed to take notes from the records, as will wire reporters from the Associated Press, Reuters and Bloomberg news agencies. Just two print newspapers will be among the pool: The Washington Post and the Arizona Republic.

McCain campaign officials said yesterday that the high level of interest in the records meant they had to limit access by reporters.

“We had to do it at the Mayo Clinic and the doctors there probably didn’t want 200 reporters running around,” said senior McCain adviser Charlie Black. “It’s not a perfect situation, but its the best available.” No independent doctors will be allowed to examine the records, although McCain officials said Thursday that most networks are flying in their medical correspondents, some of whom are doctors.

Yeah, like Charlie Black is an honest broker. I’m thinking that if the Mayo Clinic has information, the people of the United States should have the same information. What’s so embarrassing here? We’re in an age of modern miracles, and if John McCain has suffered from some frightening illnesses, it is likely they are controlled by modern science. That’s not something to hold back from the public. So what’s going on?

Only John McCain and his people know, evidently.
