MS-NBC is reporting that Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton are having a sit-down at the Clinton residence in DC this evening. (Link here.)

With Sen. Clinton signaling her intentions today to get fully behind the Obama juggernaut, it’s interesting that the two of them chose this evening to get together, out of the media spotlight. What does this portend for those who are championing Clinton’s bid for the VP slot on his ticket?

Nothing, I think.

Since the first sniffs of a potential “dream ticket” emerged, my take has been that two strong personalities like Obama and Clinton couldn’t comfortably co-exist on the same ticket. And then, there’s the “Bill factor”. For the life of me, I don’t understand how Obama / Clinton can happen. There’s a lot of baggage.

However, the old saw, “politics makes strange bedfellows” may apply. Or, a shared desire to truly turn the ship of state in the right direction. But jeez, I still can’t get past the ego thing. Both of these people have a complex of self aggrandizement that I can’t even begin to imagine. I mean, we’re talking about bordering on clinical. Unfortunately, that’s a basic requirement for running for the presidency. It’s easy to imagine that the ego swallowing alone would made both of them choke, and then we’d end up with Mike Gravel as the default Democratic Party candidate.

I just can’t see Obama / Clinton, no matter how hard I try to bring it into focus.
