Hunting Liberals: When Wingnuts Attack

A guy loses his job, blames his woes on liberal social policies, and shoots up a church. Note to Limbaugh, Hannity, Savage, Coulter, etc.: the blood of nine people is on your hands.

Commentary By: Richard Blair

Yesterday, a gunman went into a church in Tennessee and opened fire with a shotgun. Two people were killed; seven others were wounded (some critically). As soon as I heard the news of this shooting, my first reaction was: right wing fundie gun nut gone wild.

It’s worse than I thought. In fact, my head is spinning. Here’s the lede from the report (AP can sue me or send me a bill):

An unemployed man accused of opening fire with a shotgun and killing two people at a Unitarian church apparently targeted the congregation out of hatred for its support of liberal social policies, police said Monday.

A guy lost his job. He’s pissed. His unemployment insurance ran out. Apparently, his food stamp eligibility had expired also. He blames his woes on liberal social policies. It would not be surprising to find that the guy spends most of his day tuned into the hate radio talkers.

Note to Limbaugh, Savage, Hannity, Coulter, etc.: The blood of 9 people in Tennessee is on your hands.

Update, 7/29: RJ at A Night Light confirms that authorities searching Jim Adkisson’s home discovered books written by Hannity, Savage, and O’Reilly. I’d say we have confirmation of my earlier speculation. More background and commentary here and here. Also, Joshua Holland has posted an excellent article at Alternet - well worth the read.
