Ladies and Gentleman, Your Attorney General
This morning, the U.S. Attorney General told the ABA that breaking the law is not a crime, unless it is. Or something like that. Confused yet? The bottom line is that there will be no USDOJ prosecutions of anyone involved in the U.S. Attorney scandal.
According to U.S. Attorney General Michael Mukasey, breaking the law is apparently not a crime - or, all crimes are not created equal - or something like that:
“Not every wrong, or even every violation of the law, is a crime. In this instance, the two joint reports found only violations of the civil service laws.”
What was Mukasey discussing? The U.S. attorney scandal from last year, where multiple witnesses, under oath before the U.S. congress (including former AG Alberto Gonzales) lied through their teeth and did little more than create smoke screens that each of them could hide behind.
This morning, in a speech before the American Bar Association, Mukasey made it clear that the Department of Justice will not pursue charges against anyone involved in the scandal. Presumably, his remarks provide cover for everyone from Gonzales, straight on down the chain of command.
Ok. So, using Mukasey’s interpretation of law enforcement, the next time you get stopped and ticketed by a police officer for a motor vehicle violation, make sure that you cite the U.S. Attorney General’s interpretation when you speak to the judge.
“Not every wrong, or even every violation of the law, is a crime.”

“Not every wrong, or even every violation of the law, is a crime.”
For Mr. Mukasey’s elucidation, here are a few random definitions of the word “crime”:
“An act committed in violation of the law. ”
“Crime is the breach of a rule or law for which a punishment may ultimately be prescribed by some governing authority or force.”
“an act, committed or omitted, in violation of a public law governing it.”
“Violation of the law.”
“Conduct prohibited by statute with a possible penalty of a sentence in jail or prison and a fine.”
Has our entire nation gone completely mad?

Appeals court upholds CIA leak lawsuit dismissal
“A U.S. appeals court on Tuesday dismissed former CIA analyst Valerie Plame’s lawsuit against Vice President Dick Cheney and several former Bush administration officials for disclosing her identity to the public.”

“The court ruled Cheney and the others were acting within their official capacity when they revealed Plame’s identity to reporters.
“Government employees who engage in questionable acts, such as abusing prisoners at the Guantanamo Bay facility or engaging in defamatory speech, cannot be held individually liable if they are carrying out official duties, the court said.”
So treason and torture are now classified under “official duties.” Perhaps the country deserves to fail.
and why not throw out that oath before testifying anyway, since perjury is no longer against the law, apparently.
Oh, hell, you didn’t really expect he would do anything about this, did you?
