Well, I don’t know who is given the address. The Washington Post put up a thread today on one of their blogs, and I think it is an interesting question. They are wondering who will give the Keynote Address at the Republican Convention. they suggest it will be an up and coming Repub, but that leaves the field open to only Bobby Jindahl. I’m thinking that there’s not a whle lot of fun in the kind of speculation where there’s only one answer. I’m thinking two other criteria might call for far more interesting speculation. Here are my criteria:

Who would be the Repubican Convention Keynote Speaker who would fire up the Republican Party?

Who would be the Republican Convention Keynote Speaker who would most represent the Republican Party?

I suppose the tough answer concerns who could possibly inspire Repubs. An Evangelical? Rick Warren has pretty much banished all those other Evangelicals to the wastebin of ineffectiveness. Sure, a Hagee might still have his followers, but they are uninspired and will continue to be, and his constituents are old and dwindling. So goes, also, the followers of Daddy Dobson. It is a hard choice finding a Republican to speak out at the GOP Convention who will inspire right wing whack jobs to go out to vote.

It is more fun speculating on a Republican Convention Keynote speaker who represents the Republican Party. George Bush for his exemplary incompetence? Jack Abramoff for how he stands for Republican corruption? How about Mark Foley, David Vitter or Larry Craig, for how they represent Republican “values?” Oh, this one is ripe for speculation, eh?

Please, join in the fun. Let’s give suggestions for the GOP as to who their Keynote Speaker should be.
