1984, The Republican Brand

“War is Peace,” “Freedom is Slavery,” “Ignorance is Strength.” That’s the kind of crap that comes out of the Ministry of Truth in 1984. Now we know, from the Colorado Republican Chair, that the Republicans aspire to bring us the same sort of crap. They aspire to be the Ministry of Truth. Really, he said so!

Commentary By: Steven Reynolds

Oh, I knew that old Apple advertisement way back when was about the Reagan Administration. You know the one I mean. Well, today it seems the Republicans are admitting that they are the embodiment of the Orwellian vision. It is not just that the Republicans, claiming to be the party that protects freedom, want to promote several constitutional amendments banning behaviors and activities of Americans. We already knew these Republicans were never for freedom and did not support the constitution except for the second amendment.

The news today, in the sense of real revelation, and not the sense the news on TV promotes, where news is defined by how fresh they can repromote a false issue. . . let me start again. The news is that a Republican is admitting that their party is just like 1984. You know, the Orwellian 1984. The man in charge of the Republican response team to the rhetoric spewing from the DNC is named Dick Wadhams. (Please, have as much fun with that name as you wish.) Wadhams is the head of the Colorado Republican Party. Here’s his quote about what his team in Denver is charged with doing, and the quote is awfully precious. From politicswest.com:

In this west side location that is not far from the Pepsi Center yet out of sight from Democratic delegates and protesters walking downtown, Republicans will be crafting anti-Barack Obama messages nearly round the clock this week.

Republican National Committee Chairman Mike Duncan said the team of nearly two dozen staffers at the opposition headquarters will be “fact-checking” statements made by the Obama campaign and by speakers during the convention.

“Just consider this the Ministry of Truth,” quipped Dick Wadhams, chairman of the Colorado Republican Party.

I’m too full of giggles to make another comment other than to note that these Republicans are illiterate buffoons, and they show it on a regular basis. “Ministry of Truth?”
