Gustav to Spoil GOP Party?
It appears a tropical storm just may play a prime role in this Presidential election, with Gustave heading for a Monday evening landfall in the vicinity of New Orleans. Yeah, that’s the night Bush will be speaking. The pictures of he and McCain sharing a birthday cake while Katrina flooded NO will hit prime time, I’ll bet.
Tropical Storm Gustav is lining up on Jamaica right now, but the storm’s path has it headed for near New Orleans in time for the first night of the Republican Convention. That’s the night Bush speaks, if I recall. Maybe he can get Brownie to fill in for him or something.
One progressive group is making sure to take advantage of this. I’m not sure I like taking advantage of impending tragedy, but Katrina just a few years ago represents the pinnacle of Bush incompetence, and John McCain was right there sharing a birthday cake with Bush when the magnitude of Katrina was first being calculated. From Politico.com, check out this little bit of ridiculous phrasing:
The storm could threaten everything from President Bush’s Monday night address to the broader Republican message of effective government management.
“Effective government management” and “Republican” used in the same sentence? It boggles my mind that Politico isn’t seeking an editor, but sure enough, there’s no advertisement for one on Politico’s jobs page.
Mark Nickolas at HuffPo has some more interesting comments about Gustav coming to town, what Pat Robertson’s take might be, etc.
