Sarah Palin’s 17 YO Daughter Pregnant: And Yes, It Is Damn Relevant
There are many issues with which to skewer Sarah Palin, and we’ll be covering those issues soon. The McCain campaign is trying to make the case that her teenage daughter’s pregnancy isn’t one of them. But Bristol Palin’s pregnancy out of wedlock is supremely relevant to discussions that are sure to take place in the next several months - even if the disclosure is all the fault of meanie liberal bloggers.
There’s been a rumor floating around since John McCain announced that Alaska governor Sarah Palin would be his running mate. And, we at ASZ have avoided the rumor like the plague. According to the unconfirmed story (which first surfaced this past spring), it really wasn’t Sarah Palin who was preggers - it was her daughter, Bristol. Alternet has a synopsis of the rumor.
Today, the Palin’s announced that unmarried Bristol is, in fact, pregnant. And it’s all the fault of those meanie liberal bloggers that they were forced to spill the information.
ST. PAUL (Reuters) - The 17-year-old daughter of Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin is pregnant, Palin said on Monday in an announcement intended to knock down rumors by liberal bloggers that Palin faked her own pregnancy to cover up for her child.
Bristol Palin, one of Alaska Gov. Palin’s five children with her husband, Todd, is about five months pregnant and is going to keep the child and marry the father, the Palins said in a statement released by the campaign of Republican presidential candidate John McCain.
… A senior McCain campaign official said the McCain camp was appalled that these rumors had not only been spread around liberal blog sites and partisan Democrats, but also were the subject of heightened interest from mainstream news media.
“The despicable rumors that have been spread by liberal blogs, some even with Barack Obama’s name in them, is a real anchor around the Democratic ticket, pulling them down in the mud in a way that certainly juxtaposes themselves against their ‘campaign of change,”‘ a senior aide said.
Y’know, and they asked that the media “respect her privacy”. I’m OK with that, to an extent. Many, many 17 year old girls find themselves trapped in the same situation every year, and there’s no cause to drag them through the public mud. However, I do think the topic is very relevant to Gov. Palin’s credentials to be on a national party ticket, particularly when her own views toward abstinence based sex education are…well…let’s let Sarah answer the question:
3. Will you support funding for abstinence-until-marriage education instead of for explicit sex-education programs, school-based clinics, and the distribution of contraceptives in schools?
SP: Yes, the explicit sex-ed programs will not find my support.
There are so many other issues with which to skewer Sarah Palin (and I’ll be commenting on some of those issues in the near future). But as I noted, her teenage daughter’s pregnancy out of wedlock is supremely relevant to discussions that are sure to take place in the next several months. It’s as relevant, and maybe more so, as the fact that rabidly anti-gay Dick Cheney has a gay daughter, but that was out of bounds for some reason (because the GOP said so, I guess) in the last presidential election, where the issue of gay marriage was such a huge, divisive topic.
And if you believe for one moment that the McCain campaign knew about this ahead of time before they offered Sarah Palin the Veep slot on the ticket, I have a Bridge to Nowhere™ for sale. Cheap. If McCain did know about it, then that says even more about his judgment (which is already under question) in choosing Palin as his running mate.

It matters a lot that a party that chastises liberals on all issues related to the sanctity of marriage, reproductive issues, medical determination and family values (including the selfishness of working mothers) has put forth a candidate who seems to go out of her way to put her own ambitious career aspirations well ahead of the needs of her children. Trig and Bristol Palin (and Bristol’s unborn child) seem to be props to advance the republican party’s religious crusade. I feel sorry for them that Sarah and Todd Palin are willing conspirators in all this.
Poor Bristol. What it says to me is that Sarah Palin is more concerned with her personal ambition than her family. What mother would put her daughter through this? There is no way Sarah Palin could not have realized the press/bloggers would go after her daughter on this issue. Just don’t understand the mind-frames of politicos at all. The things they put their families through all so they can move up in the political world. Sarah Palin could have declined and it probably wouldn’t have hurt her obvious movement upward in the Republican political world. Sad all around but mostly for her children. It was Edwards’ children I felt for, not their clearly self-absorbed parents.

If you can find a citation, even one, where a known prominent liberal has said that only true woman murder their children, then by all means, please provide it and I will cede this argument to you.
In the meantime, you might want to start reading about Andrea Yates and her religious background, specifically the call to have as many children as possible and how that, amid other factors, ultimately played a contributing role in the murder of her own children well after they were born.

As for Sarah Palin, she’s just like her fellow “republicans” — opportunistic, selfish and power-hungry. Family values??? Really??? A woman who has just given birth to a “special needs” child and then accepts an offer to run as a Vice Presidential candidate … who is going to be bonding and caring for the infant??? How is SHE going to learn to care for her own infant, being on the road campaigning non-stop for the next several months??? And HOW DARE she submit her other children (especially her oldest daughter) to the kind of scrutiny that surely would come with such an endeavor… Family values? More like personal ambition.

what kind of mother goes back to work (if she has any choice at all) 3 days after giving birth? and to a special needs baby at that? has she taken any time at all to bond with her supposed child? these people are so fucked up it is baffling. but it really is frightening to see the idiots come out defending it.
