Sarah Palin, A Car Wash is Evidently Not “God’s Will”

Sarah Palin isn’t just a member of an extremist church where she leads prayers for the benefit of a pipeline. She’s also the former partner in a failed car wash operation, one that failed because it either wouldn’t or couldn’t meet state of Alaska standards. The car wash failed while she was responsible for enforcing those standards.

Commentary By: Steven Reynolds

As I noted yesterday, Sarah Palin gave a talk to a youth group at her extremist Assembly of God whereby she stated that both the war in Iraq and the proposed natural gas pipeline in Alaska were “God’s Will.” The story of Palin’s religious extremism is beginning to get more play today. Another story shows us something that is not “God’s Will,” the story about the car wash where Sarah Palin and her husband had a significant interest. Not only did the car wash fail to flourish, it was closed while Palin was Governor. Yes, the regulations she was bound to enforce were the cause of the failure of the business she had an interest in. From Huliq News:

State records show the business ran into trouble with Alaska’s division of corporations business and professional licensing after Palin became governor of the state in 2006.

A Feb. 11, 2007 letter to the governor’s business partner advises that the car wash had “not filed its biennial report and/or paid its biennial fees,” which were more than a year overdue.

The warning letter was written on state letterhead, which carried Palin’s name at the top, next to the state seal.

On April 3, 2007, the state went further and issued a “certificate of involuntary dissolution” because of the car wash’s failure to file its report and pay state licensing fees.

So much for the myth that Palin has executive skills. She can’t even run her own business, nor follow the regulations of the state where she is Governor.

But let’s end this post on a happy note, with the lyrics from that old Rose Royce tune, Car Wash:

Car Wash
Rose Royce

Ooh ooh
You might not ever get rich
But let me tell ya it’s better than diggin’ a ditch
There ain’t no tellin’ who you might meet
A movie star or maybe even an Indian chief

(Workin’)
At the car wash
Workin’ at the car wash, girl
Come on and sing it with me
(Car wash)
Sing it with the feelin’ ya’all
(Car wash, girl)

Ooh!

Some of the work gets kinda hard
This ain’t no place to be if you planned on bein’ a star
Let me tell you it’s always cool
And the boss don’t mind sometimes if you act the fool

At the car wash
Whoa whoa whoa whoa
Talkin’ about the car wash, girl
Come on, ya’all and sing it for me
(Car wash)
Oooh oooh oooh
(Car wash, girl)

(Work and work)
Well, those cars never seem to stop coming
(Work and work)
Keep those rags and machines humming
(Work and work)
My fingers to the bone
(Work)
Can’t wait till it’s time to go home (?)

(Hey, get your car washed today)
Fill up and you don’t have to pay
Come on and give us a play
(Do the wash, right away)

(The car wash)
Talkin’ ’bout the car wash
Car wash, girl
Come on, ya’all, let’s sing it with me
(Car wash)
Sing it with feelin’, ya’all
(Car wash, girl)

Whoa whoa whoa whoa
(Car wash)
Never seem to stop comin’
What’d I say
Keep those rags and machines hummin’
(Car wash)
Let me tell you, it’s always cool . . .

Maybe Sarah Palin and family can do a lovely karaoke rendition of this tune at the convention tonight. That sure would bring down the house, wouldn’t it?
