McCain: Suspending Campaign & Postponing Debate
John McCain has announced that he’s suspending his campaign and asking to postpone Friday’s upcoming presidential debate. So, what’s the gambit here?
John McCain is suspending his campaign, and is asking for a postponement of Friday’s presidential debate so he can return to Washington to ostensibly deal with the financial system crisis.
This is either a) a gambit, b) a stunt, or c) things are really, really friggin’ bad - as in, “postponing elections” bad.
The only thing I’m not sure about is why this is happening.

Couldn’t be there to vote on veterans’ benefits, but he’ll be there to bail out Wall Street. Nice.

McCain, who used to be so cozy with the press, has totally cut them off since the conventions. Sarah Palin is being totally hidden away. This is working for them- after all, the way things are now, McCain ought to be behind by about thirty points. So why not use any excuse to hide from the public and run totally on lies and smears.
McCain is very afraid. He’ll do anything between now and November to dodge any public accountability for his 26 year record.
McCain isn’t afraid of anything. He is suspending his campaign because he knows he can do no more to distract the gullible American public in the face of the coming collapse of the dollar.

Here’s a vote for “stunt.” He knew that for the debate “the dog ate my homework” wouldn’t work as an excuse. Besides, he’s got seven homes, 13 cars. . . he’s likely got so many dogs he couldn’t figure out which one to blame.
My first thought was that this was a stunt. The, I realized what it is all about.
We all know that we are coming in for five weeks of vicious lies and smears about Obama. McCain will stand there and say, “naughty, naughty, but there’s just nothing I can do about this.”
Now, McCain is trying to manipulate Obama into this agreement to not answer back. If he fights back against the swift boating, McCain’s people would screech that Obama was breaking his commitment, while claiming that McCain just can’t control the vast army of Republican smear merchants.
I would attribute this to panic on McCain’s part, except that his behavior of the last few months proves that he doesn’t need to be in trouble to resort to slime. Luckily, Obama doesn’t seem to be biting on this worm.
