John McCain’s Offensive Jokes, and Other Stupid McCainisms

McCain told another offensive joke, but his other humorous statements make him look like that knight in Spamalot saying “I’m not dead yet” while his opponent carves limbs from him. Delusional, and the press isn’t calling McCain on it. Look for another campaign stunt on Wednesday in time to sway the news cycle before the VP debate.

Commentary By: Steven Reynolds

Oh yeah, you’ve already heard the one about Janet Reno and Chelsea Clinton. Therefore a simple joke offending the Irish won’t likely impress you. So for humor here on an early Monday morning we’re going to have to follow John McCain’s words on the campaign trail.

First, McCain, who pulled that stupid stunt last week suspending his campaign to go to Washington to screw up the negotiations concernign the financial bailout, is saying Barack Obama is taking political advantage of the financial crisis. Really, he said it. From CBSnews.com:

In his first public address since last night’s presidential debate, John McCain accused Barack Obama using the current financial crisis for political gain.

“It was clear that Sen. Obama still sees the financial crisis in America as a national problem to be exploited first and solved later,” McCain said. “I am determined to help achieve a legislative package to help avoid the worst, and to set our economy back on the path of stability, confidence, and growth.”

Of course, CBS News did not report about last week’s campaign stunt by McCain in covering this story, reportage which would have made McCain look silly. Heck, it would be mere mention of the truth, eh?.

Then McCain bemoaned the “fact,” according to him, that the media called the Friday’s debate a tie. For McCain, that meant a win. From Reuters:

Republican White House hopeful John McCain, fresh from his first debate with Democratic rival Barack Obama in Mississippi, expressed regret on Saturday that his performance didn’t win over all the pundits in the press.

“I was a little disappointed the media called it a tie but I think that means, when they call it a tie, that means we win,” McCain said during a telephone call that was caught by cameras filming him at his campaign headquarters.

The old adage is that a tie is like kissing your sister, but McCain evidently sees that as a win. Evidently he hasn’t seen the polling where independent voters called it a win for Obama. Again, the media reporting McCain’s words did not report reality. Heck, even the daily tracking polls, like this latest one from Gallup, are showing widening leads for Obama. It is time to wonder if McCain has any connection to reality anymore.

Perhaps the real issue is about McCain’s gambling problem. Is he about to double down? Is he about to make yet another reckless move in order to make up for all the bvad reckless moves he has made since the GOP Convention? There are little signs here of further desparation. Look for some craziness from the McCain campaign beyond these delusions, and soon. I’m guessing the timing will be Wednesday, a news cycle before Sarah Palin walks into a debate where she’ll speak in tongues.
