Sarah Palin Has a Degree in Journalism
Sarah Palin was “educated” as a journalist, a college major once unfavorably compared to basket weaving. Yet here she is cramming for a debate and attacking the press at the same time. She’s saying her incoherence and stumbles are to to a press corps devoted to “gotchas.” Clearly in this case, “gotchas” are about quality of character.
Duncan writes just this little line over on Eschaton, pitched as a “deep thought. As Duncan is want to do, he let’s his readers come to the conclusions, but I think the notion deserves a bit more mention as Sarah Palin’s numbers go south even in her home state of Alaska. Also, with Palin having gotten her degree in Journalism, and the fact she and her campaign attack journalists nonstop, I’m wondering what good a journalism degree does, even one from so prestigious an institution as West Idaho Bible College, or wherever she earned her degree from.
I remember this story. Joe Namath, the Hall of Fame football player, was once confronted at his locker after a football game about the courses he took in college. Here’s the story told succinctly from the Sports Illustrated vault:
When a writer tried to tease him about his classes at Alabama, asking if he majored in basket weaving, Joe Willie said, “Nah, man, journalism—it was easier.”
Oh, I’ve got respect for some journalists, and I believe that many try to get to the truth in their reporting, but the rigor of their course of study isn’t all that rigorous, at least that’s the reputation. As we’re seeing with Sarah Palin, her academic training, at least, isn’t helping her come to the point and avoid incoherence in interviews. Perhaps she should have taken basket weaving in college?
Now we find that Sarah Palin is cramming for the Vice Presidential debates. She is in GOP “boot camp.” Cramming is likely something she never did in college. I’m thinking if she weren’t so woefully unprepared for the role of Vice President, the fact that she is cramming would not be making the front page news. As it is, Sarah Palin is confident, but as the New York Times notes, she’s “vague.” More, once Sarah Palin left her studies in journalism at Northeast Idaho Community Normal School, it appears, at least from a recent interview, that she never read a newspaper again. Yeah, the Journalism major Sarah Palin, who never reads newspapers, or at least can’t name one she reads, is criticizing the press. Given her credentials for such criticism, I deem it whiney criticism, so if Sarah Palin doesn’t qualify as an expert, at least she qualifies as a whiney Republican.
She sure is a confusing candidate, isn’t she? Or should I say “confused?”

more than likely she didn’t want to admit to the specific material she gets her information from because they’re known for being, how should we say it…. hmmm…. “a little further to the right than “the right”"…
Come to think of it, perhaps Sarah Palin’s ideal of “approriate” newspaper for the Joe Sixpack crowd would have been the national Sunday gazetta Grit in its glory days of featuring glowing generalities to a mostly small-town audience with narrow-minded ideas….
i don’t know sukabi, i seriously don’t think she reads anything. even if she read a wingnutty rag she would have some ideas about world events, and she just doesn’t seem to know anything. hey she could have said usa today and it would have been better than what she said.
I know that somegirl, but it is kind of interesting that she chose to be photographed with the off-spring of the John Birch Society’s magazine, as well as her and her husband’s associations with the AIP. I tend to think all her “foreign policy” experience has been with the latter group and how to make the good ol’ US of A a “foreign” government from her Alaskan Empire.
Let’s call her Milfy McMooseburger from now on. It so much reminds me of Chimpy McFlightsuit.
