McCain Loses Pa. Media Coverage - to a Corpse
It would be sad, if it wasn’t so funny. The McCain campaign was gearing up for some smears on Obama in advance of McCain’s appearances in the Philly suburbs yesterday, and called a news conference. Only one TV camera showed up. The rest of the print and broadcast media from the area were covering a report of a dead body found in a local park.
If you’re running for President of the United States, you depend on your advisers to let you know when things aren’t going very well in the campaign, particularly during the final couple of weeks prior to election day.
On Monday, John McCain was campaigning in the Philadelphia suburbs. His Montgomery County campaign staff was holding a press conference at the FOP Hall in Conshohoken, in advance of his appearance at Montgomery Community College. Here’s what happened:
CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa. — [Montgomery County GOP commissioner] Bruce Castor was making small talk with a few Fraternal Order of Police officials yesterday as they waited for reporters to arrive for a McCain campaign news conference. By the scheduled hour, one television cameraman had shown up; no local reporters.
“There’s a dead body in Juniata Park,” a McCain staffer reported. “That’s what some people are covering.” …
…Finishing second to a corpse for media attention was not quite the result the campaign might have hoped for on a day when polls depicted a double-digit deficit for the GOP ticket in a state they’ve heavily targeted…
I’m reminded of a hilarious, almost throw-away scene in the movie, Spinal Tap, when the band found out that a concert date in Boston had been axed due to poor ticket sales. Band manager Ian Faith tried to downplay the situation:
Ian Faith: The Boston gig has been canceled…
David St. Hubbins: What??
Ian Faith: Yeah. I wouldn’t worry about it though, it’s not a big college town.
Hoo, boy. With McCain down in the polls in Pennsylvania by nearly 10%, why is he even wasting the time to campaign in the state? The answer to that question doesn’t require a lot of thought.

Was it mentioned in the Press Conference whether the dead body had been registered by ACORN? You mean the GOP guy missed that opportunity?
oh my God, the Repub trolls are everywhere… Faux Noise at least has one viewer left. every liberal blog now has at least one idiot troll posting an ACORN message. The Right ought to rename the party the reflection party cuz whatever they are doing at the moment they try to reflect onto their opponents. These idiot right wing nuts are trying to disenfranchise voters all across America and to cover up this bs they keep all there sheep glued to Faux Noise latest innuendo on ACORN. Its hard to believe that these people haven’t crawled back under their rocks after 8 years of Bush.
Doesn’t matter; McCain will win simply because the swing states have their machines fixed.
The Republicans will ‘deliver’ the election to him. No doubt.
It will be a 3 electoral college vote win.
A dead body was found in Virginia Beach, identified as a missing Norfolk woman when Obama was in Newport News, yet reporters were able to cover both stories in our area.
Speaking of Acorn, it should be noted as indicative of our no-jobs environment that people have to resort to falsifying voter registration data to earn a living, don’t you think?
